Fintry Renewable Energy Enterprise
ABOUT FREE
Background on Fintry
Fintry is a small rural community lying in West Stirlingshire between the Campsie
and Fintry Hills. There is a population of around 500 people in the village catchment
area, engaged in an array of occupations from farming to the performing arts.
This is a thriving community with active sports, performing arts and social events.
There is a Community Council which has been involved in the development of this
proposal and is supportive of this initiative.

There is no mains gas supply to the village. Electricity is available to all
households from the National grid, however the bulk of domestic heating is through the
use of combustion of fossil hydrocarbons: either heating oil or LPG. These are increasingly expensive
forms of heating.
Background on FREE
FREE has a long-term ambition of achieving a carbon-neutral sustainable community in
Fintry so our areas of operation will ultimately include transport as well as heating and lighting.
FREE has an executive management group of identified members, all of whom are
resident in Fintry and manage the various schemes FREE operates. We report to the Fintry Community Council to inform
the village in a formal fashion. FREE was set-up in 2003 and is a company limited by guarantee.
